Miscellaneous Activities
These are not regular activities, but have been organised over a period of time:
a. In Local Fairs
The organisation provided service during the famous Devgarh Fair in Surguja district. Free of cost edibles with local contribution were distributed. The organisation’s workers helped in maintaining order at the fair. It also ran a lost and found helpline and re-united seven lost children with their parents. The opportunity was also used to create awareness about child marriage, witch maltreatment and de-addiction by distribution of pamphlets and booklets.
b. Celebration of National Days
The organisation regularly celebrates National Days – Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15) and Gandhi’s Birth Anniversary (October 2). Locals in large number participate in these programmes.
c. Road Safety and Traffic Awareness Campaign
In collaboration with the local police and traffic police, the organisation ran a road safety and traffic awareness drive. A number of slogans were painted on different locations on Ambikapur-Bilaspur Road. As a result of the organisation’s efforts over 300 people vowed to wear helmet and follow traffic rules at all costs.
d. Information Centre and Library
The organisation has established an information centre-cum-library at its state office. Useful books have been arranged from various organisations and people for the use of general public. The uniqueness of the facility is collection of information on government schemes.
e. Social Harmony Week
A Social Harmony Week was observed in various gram panchayats of Jashpur, Surguja and Koriya districts. People were explained the need to break taboos of casteism and untouchability. Many people took oath to maintain harmony.
f. Tribals Congregation
A two-day congregation of voluntary organisations working on tribals issue was held at Adivasi Bal Vikas Vidyalaya, founded by Late Kartik Oraon at Ratu in Ranchi. The congregation was jointly organised on February 11 and 12, 2012 by Akhil Bharatiya Banwasi Kalyan Ashram and Aadivasi Vikas Parishad.
Chhattisgarsh Sabri Seva Sansthan was a participant in this congregation, which discussed issues like education, health, rural development, economic development, self-reliance, tribal self esteem, tribals rights, formation and of SHGs, malnutrition, progressive agriculture, industrial training, rights over water forest and land, caste certificate, major problems of tribals and their resolution, etc. The congregation laid emphasis on coordination of the organisations working on tribal issues.
